Eventing doesn’t test strength in isolation. It tests your ability to stay organised across phases — precision on the flat, rapid reorganisation over fences, and control under fatigue on varied terrain. When strength isn’t organised well, faults don’t appear immediately. They show up later, when effort accumulates and compensations creep in.

This programme is designed to address that.

The Eventer – 12 Week Foundation Strength Programme is a structured, gym-based strength and conditioning plan that aims to build the physical capacity required to maintain balance, alignment and control across the demands of eventing. It doesn’t teach riding or chase exhaustion. It focuses on developing usable strength that supports known technique rather than fighting it.

You’ll train two full-body sessions per week, progressing through clear training blocks. Early phases prioritise movement quality and control, before gradually introducing more meaningful loading and modest increases in complexity. Exercise selection rotates within the same movement families to provide new stimulus while keeping demands appropriate and manageable alongside riding.

Strength work targets the patterns that underpin effective riding: hinging, squatting, unilateral control, trunk organisation and lower-leg stability. Conditioning is included sparingly and deliberately, with the aim of supporting fatigue resistance without interfering with time in the saddle.

Progression is controlled. Load increases only when technique remains consistent and reps are completed with reserve. The goal is capacity without unnecessary soreness, fatigue or disruption to riding.
